A dental implant is a small titanium post used to replace a missing adult tooth. At Bardmoor Family Dental, Dr. J will surgically place the implant into your gums. Its purpose is to replace the root of your missing tooth. 

In an adult tooth, your roots go deep in your gums near your jawbones. When you chew, the pressure you put on your teeth makes the roots wiggle and stimulate the jawbone, which keeps it healthy. When the tooth is missing, that stimulation is also missing; and over time, this can lead to bone loss in your jaw. This is why implants are an important restorative and preventative treatment. 

Once the implant has been placed and your gums heal, Dr. J will then attach a crown to the top of the implant that looks and functions the same as your natural teeth.
